WHAT IS THIS ALL ABOUT?                                                                                                                      <<-Back

The short answer is that we’re trying to help you decrease the number of bad pitches you receive from public relations practitioners and increase the good pitches, the stuff you can really use.

Tall order? Not really. PR practitioners will use our service to search for media contacts. But before they start their publicity campaign, we’ll first educate them on exactly what beat info you’re looking for and any other tips you want to give them to make your work a little simpler.

In fact, we won’t even give them your contact details unless their campaign relates to your specific beat.

We’re not in the business of selling media databases, we’re in the business of improving media relations.

It’s free and it’s simple. All you have to do is update your details, we’ll do the rest.

We encourage personalised pitching – no mass emails
Our aim is to protect you from PR spam, so Encyclomedia will never provide an email distribution service or tool. Oh, it’s our pleasure.

How do I benefit from being on the media database?
A:
You know that some PR folk can be quite useful, but there are also many more that really just waste your time. Now we are giving you the tool to tell all PR people exactly what works for you BEFORE they contact you. Through the Encyclomedia database, you can tell them exactly what content you’re looking for, how they must send it to you, what your deadlines are, etc.
We place great importance on your pitching tips when we give the database to PR companies, which we also reinforce with tips and articles on our news section. As more and more companies start using your tips and sticking to your beat info, you will start receiving more useful content, with less of the irrelevant releases clogging up your mailbox.

I don’t want to get hundreds of emails and news releases! Who will have access to my details?
A:
The only people who will receive your details are those PR practitioners who are doing a publicity campaign linked to your beat.
PR practitioners are allowed to customise their media database according to several criteria. But we restrict them to only search for one beat at a time, the beat that is most relevant to their publicity campaign. This means that Encyclomedia users should only be sending you information that’s relevant to your beat.
The more detailed and specific you can make your beat info and pitching tips, the less irrelevant emails you’ll receive.

How often must I update my details?
A:
You only need to update your details whenever there’s something you’d like to change or add. But out of all the things you need to remember to do every day, it’s easy to forget – even something as important as this ;) So we will send you a brief reminder email from time to time.

When do you need to verify my profile?
A:
We have made a promise to our database users that the information they receive is up-to-date. Therefore, every time someone orders a media database where your name is included, we need to ensure that your details are updated. We’ll first check to see if your details have been updated or verified within the last 21 days. If not, then we’ll send you a quick email to see if there’s anything you’d like to change before we add your name to the client’s database.
